The browser phone

Make and take calls from any modern browser — the three-pane phone workspace, dialing, in-call controls, and click-to-dial.

The browser phone is a no-install softphone that runs in any modern browser. It's laid out as a three-pane workspace, so calls, contacts, and voicemail are always a click away. Because the phone lives in the browser, there's nothing to rack or wire at the desk — part of what makes intSignal a cloud phone system with no on-premise hardware.

The workspace

  • Left — your lists. Three tabs: Calls (your history, with incoming / outgoing / missed and relative times), Contacts (the company directory), and Voicemail (your visual inbox).
  • Middle — the call. During a call, the live view shows who you're talking to, a timer, and answer/decline · mute · transfer · hang-up. Between calls it shows the selected contact — your history with them, their voicemails and transcripts, and a notes field.
  • Right — the dialer. A "Calling as" line shows the number and extension you're placing calls from, a single search box matches the directory and your recents, a suggestions dropdown helps you pick, and there's a keypad you can show or hide.

Placing a call

Type a name or a number in the dialer's search box and press call. The phone accepts any common format:

  • +19495550123
  • 19495550123
  • 9495550123
  • Internal extensions and 911 are dialed as-is.

In-call controls

  • Mute your microphone
  • In-call keypad (DTMF) — send digits to menus and IVRs
  • Blind transfer — send the call to another extension or number
  • Call timer, ringback, and ring tones

Click-to-dial

Phone-number links on web pages and in emails can open the browser phone and dial automatically — no copying and pasting.

Tip

Your Calling as number controls the caller ID your contacts see. If you have more than one number, pick which to call or text from — but note that 911 always uses the extension's own emergency number regardless of this choice. See Phone numbers & caller ID.
