Sign-in & two-factor authentication

Accept your invitation, sign in to intSignal Connect, reset a forgotten password, turn on two-factor authentication with recovery codes, and understand unusual sign-in alerts.

Your phone system, messages, meetings and settings all live in intSignal Connect, at connect.intsignal.com. This page covers getting in and keeping your account secure.

How accounts are created

Accounts are created by invitation only. There's no public sign-up: the sign-up page only says "Account creation is by invitation".

  • intSignal sets up your organization's workspace and invites its first owner.
  • After that, your workspace's owners and admins invite everyone else. See Users & roles.

Accept your invitation

Open the invitation email

Look for an email with the subject "You've been invited to intSignal Connect". Select Set your password.

Do it within 30 minutes

The link expires 30 minutes after the invitation is sent. If it has expired, you don't need a new invitation. Go to the sign-in page, select Forgot password?, and enter the same email address. The reset link works exactly the same way.

Choose your password

On Choose a new password, enter it in New password and Confirm password, then select Update password. The page asks for at least 8 characters. Use a long, unique password that you don't use anywhere else.

When you see Password updated, go to the sign-in page and sign in with your email address and new password.

Already have an intSignal Connect login?

If your email address already has a login, for example because you belong to another workspace, you're added straight away and no email is sent. Reload the app to see the new workspace.

  1. Open connect.intsignal.com. The page is titled Sign in to your account.
  2. Enter your Email and Password, then select Sign in.
  3. If you've turned on two-factor authentication, enter your 6-digit code. See Signing in with a code.

Use the email address and password from your invitation. The Sign in with Microsoft button is only for organizations that intSignal has set up for Microsoft sign-in. If you haven't been told to use it, sign in with your email address.

Forgot your password

Request a reset link

On the sign-in page, select Forgot password?. Enter your Email and select Send reset link.

Check your email

You'll see Check your email. For your security, the page looks the same whether or not an account exists for that address. The email's subject is "Reset your password — intSignal Connect". Select Reset password in it. The link expires soon, so use it right away.

Set a new password

Enter your New password twice and select Update password. When you see Password updated, sign in with the new password.

If you see "This reset link is invalid or has expired. Request a new one.", start again from Forgot password? to get a fresh link. If you see "Passwords do not match.", retype the password in both boxes.

To change a password you still know, use the same steps. There's no separate "change password" screen.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step to signing in: a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Even if someone learns your password, they can't get in without that code. Turn it on for every account, and always for owners and admins.

You need any authenticator app that shows 6-digit codes that change every 30 seconds.

Turn on two-factor authentication

Open your account security

Select your email address at the bottom of the sidebar to open your Account page. Under Security, find Two-factor authentication (2FA).

Start setup

Select Enable two-factor.

Add the account to your authenticator app

Scan the QR code with your authenticator app. If you can't scan it, select the key shown under "Or enter this key manually" to copy it, and type it into the app. The entry appears in your app as intSignal Connect with your email address.

Confirm with a code

Type the 6-digit code your app is showing into "Enter the 6-digit code it shows", and select Verify & turn on.

Save your recovery codes

You'll see Save your recovery codes: ten one-time codes that look like abcde-12345. Select Copy all and store them in your password manager or another safe place, then select Done. They're shown only once.

The card now shows an On badge. Setting it up also verifies your current session, so you aren't asked for a code straight away.

If you see "That code is incorrect. Try again.", check that your phone's clock is set automatically, then enter the code that's showing now. If you see "Start setup again — no pending secret.", select Cancel and start over.

Signing in with a code

Once 2FA is on, after your password you'll see Two-factor authentication:

  1. Open your authenticator app and find intSignal Connect.
  2. Type the current code into Authentication code. Spaces don't matter.
  3. Select Verify.

You're asked for a code each time you sign in, on every browser. Until you enter it, nothing in your account opens, including voicemail and call recordings.

  • "That code was already used. Wait for the next one." Each code works once. Wait for your app to show a new one.
  • "Invalid code." Check you're reading the intSignal Connect entry, and that your phone's clock is set automatically.
  • Wrong account? Select Sign out on the same screen.

If you lose your phone

Enter one of your recovery codes in Authentication code instead of a 6-digit code. Case and hyphens don't matter. Each recovery code works once, so cross it off after you use it.

Then move 2FA to your new phone:

  1. Go to Account → Security.
  2. In "Enter a current code to turn off 2FA", enter a recovery code, or a current code if you still have the old app, and select Disable 2FA.
  3. Select Enable two-factor and set it up again on the new phone. This gives you a fresh set of ten recovery codes.

Lost your phone and your recovery codes?

You can't turn off two-factor authentication yourself without a code, so contact intSignal support. Keeping your recovery codes somewhere safe means this never has to happen.

Turn off two-factor authentication

On Account → Security, enter a current authenticator code or a recovery code, and select Disable 2FA. We don't recommend it. If you're replacing your phone, turn 2FA off and straight back on instead.

Unusual sign-in alerts

Every successful sign-in is checked against your previous one. If it comes from a new country, or from a place too far away to have traveled to since your last sign-in, you receive an email titled "Security alert: unusual sign-in to your IntSignal account". It shows the country and network address of the sign-in, and why it was flagged.

The alert doesn't block the sign-in. Travel, a VPN, or a new mobile network can all trigger it.

  • If it was you, you don't need to do anything.
  • If it wasn't you, reset your password immediately with Forgot password?, turn on two-factor authentication if it isn't already on, and tell your workspace administrator.

Sign out

Select the Log out icon at the bottom of the sidebar, next to your email address. Always sign out on shared or public computers.

When a new version is available

When intSignal releases an update, a banner appears with a Reload button. Finish any call you're on first, then select Reload to get the latest version.
