How is public cloud billed?

Compute instances are billed by the hour — you pay only for the hours an instance runs, and can start or stop in seconds. Storage is billed per GB, per month. There are no long-term commitments, and Object Storage includes all traffic, so there are no surprise egress charges.

What does '≈ $/mo' mean next to the hourly price?

It's the approximate cost of running that instance continuously for a month (about 730 hours). If you only run an instance part-time, you pay only for those hours at the hourly rate.

Which instance type should I choose?

General Purpose is the balanced default for web apps and services. Compute Optimized gives more cores per GB for CPU-bound work. Memory Optimized gives more RAM per core for databases and caches. Sandbox is for dev and test. Not sure? Tell us your workload and we'll size it.

Is there egress (data-transfer) cost?

Object Storage includes all traffic at no charge. Instance and block-storage bandwidth is generous; we'll flag anything unusual up front so there are no surprise bills — a common frustration with hyperscalers.
