Calling limits & fraud protection

How intSignal Connect protects your account from toll fraud and runaway bills: international calling controls, blocked premium-rate numbers, monthly minute allowances, simultaneous call limits, texting limits, and automatic shut-off when unusual activity is detected.

Toll fraud, where criminals use a business's phone system to make expensive calls, can run up thousands in charges in a few hours. intSignal Connect has several layers of protection built in, and most need nothing from you.

International calling

International calling is off for every new workspace. Calls are limited to the US and Canada until an owner or admin turns it on.

To see or change it, go to Admin → Settings, open Billing and Usage → Call logs, and find International calling:

  • blocked — US/Canada only (anti-toll-fraud), with Enable, or
  • ENABLED, with Disable.

Enabling asks you to confirm: "Enable international + high-cost (Caribbean) outbound calling for this tenant? Premium-rate/satellite stays blocked. This raises toll-fraud exposure."

  • Turning it on allows international numbers and high-cost Caribbean destinations.
  • It also applies to Forward ALL calls to international numbers.
  • If the switch doesn't change for you, contact intSignal.

Only turn it on if you need it

If only a few people call abroad, consider leaving international calling off and asking intSignal about the options for your account. Turn it off again when you no longer need it.

Always blocked

Premium-rate and satellite numbers are always blocked, whatever your settings. These are the destinations fraudsters use most. A caller who tries hears a message that the call can't be completed.

Monthly minutes

The Call logs summary shows "This month: N calls · N min", with your monthly minute cap if one applies, and whether calling is enabled. If your workspace reaches a monthly cap set for your account, calling is turned off for your workspace. Contact intSignal to review the cap.

Simultaneous calls

Your account has limits on how many calls can run at once, and how many can be started each minute. They are set by intSignal for your plan. If you hit a limit, the new call doesn't connect, and calls already in progress aren't affected. If your team regularly needs more simultaneous calls, contact intSignal.

Automatic shut-off for unusual activity

intSignal Connect keeps watch over your workspace's calling. If outbound calls, minutes or international minutes in an hour go above safe levels, it turns calling off for your workspace to stop possible fraud, and emails your owners and admins: "Security alert: outbound calling auto-disabled for" your workspace.

If you receive this email:

  1. Review recent calls in Call logs. Look for calls to unfamiliar international numbers, many calls in a short time, or calls outside working hours.
  2. Check for compromise: reset the passwords of anyone whose account made unexpected calls, make sure they use two-factor authentication, and revoke API keys you don't recognize.
  3. Contact intSignal to review the activity with you and turn calling back on.

Texting protection

Texting has its own limits, 15 texts a minute and 200 an hour per workspace by default, and an automatic pause for unusual volumes. See Sending limits.

Blocked callers

Numbers you block for your whole workspace can't call in. They hear a busy signal. See Spam reports & blocking.

Keep your account safe

  • Turn on two-factor authentication for every owner and admin.
  • Give the Admin and Owner roles only to people who need them.
  • Keep international calling off unless you need it.
  • Remove people who leave straight away. See Users & roles.
  • Revoke API keys that aren't in use.
