Contacts

Use your team's shared address book in intSignal Connect: add, edit and search contacts, call or text them in one click, and import contacts from a CSV or vCard file without creating duplicates.

Contacts is your team's shared address book. There's one list for the whole workspace, so a customer added by one person is instantly there for everyone: in the dialer suggestions, on the Phone page, and as a name in your call history instead of a bare number.

Open Contacts in the sidebar. The page is described as "Your team's shared address book."

Import contacts from a file

Because every member can edit and delete shared contacts, agree as a team how you name companies and people, and delete only contacts you're sure nobody needs.

Find a contact

Type into Search name, company, number, email to find a contact by any of those details.

Each contact card shows:

  • the name and company
  • every phone number, each with its own Call and Text button
  • the email address, which opens your email app when selected
  • any notes
  • Edit and Delete

Add a contact

Open the form

Select Add contact.

Fill in the details

  • Full name is required. Without it you'll see "A contact name is required."
  • Company (optional).
  • Phone numbers: type a number, and select + Add number for each extra one, up to 25. Type numbers in any common format. US and Canadian numbers are saved with their country code, so they match incoming calls and texts.
  • Email (optional).
  • Notes (optional, up to 2,000 characters). For example: "Office manager. Prefers texts. Contract renews in March."

Save

Save the contact. It's immediately available to everyone in your workspace.

To change a contact, select Edit on their card. To remove one, select Delete and confirm Delete name?. Deleting can't be undone.

Call or text a contact

Select Call or Text next to the number you want. Call places the call from your browser phone, and Text opens a conversation in Messages.

You don't have to open Contacts to reach someone. On the Phone page, contacts appear:

  • in the dialer's suggestions as you type a name or number,
  • on the Contacts tab, after your colleagues' extensions, with a Manage contacts → link, and
  • as the caller's name in your Calls history.

Import contacts

Owners and admins can bring in an existing address book in one step. intSignal Connect reads both CSV and vCard (.vcf) files and works out the format by itself.

Export from where your contacts live now

Most email services, phones and contact apps have an export option. Choose CSV or vCard.

Import

In Contacts, select Import and choose the file. A file can hold up to 5,000 contacts and be up to about 8 MB.

Check the result

You'll see a summary such as "Imported 212 new, updated 18, skipped 7 duplicate(s)."

How duplicates are handled

Each contact in the file is matched against your address book, first by any phone number they share, then by email address:

  • No match: a new contact is created.
  • A match with new details: the existing contact is updated. New phone numbers and a company name are added to it.
  • An exact match, or the same person appearing twice in the file: skipped.

So it's safe to import the same file again, or an updated version of it. You won't get duplicates.

Note

An import doesn't bring in notes, and it doesn't rename contacts that already exist. Edit those by hand if you need to.
